My short documentary is intended to inspire people. After suffering a haemorrhagic stroke @ the age of 39 in 2007, I felt quite devastated, especially having been such an active person, riding motorbikes & being very handy. So by losing left side peripheral vision & limited use of my left arm & hand, with a limp I retrained to drive a car, after intense rehabilitation I managed to compensate and get on with life, although I couldn’t go back into the workforce yet, with the help of income protection and my wife’s support, we made the best of things, did some traveling, became parents, which gave life a whole new meaning. Unfortunately the RMS tightened the laws regarding peripheral vision loss and after 5 years managing to up hold my freedom it was taken away. So I had to resort to getting around on an electric scooter, it restricted my mobility to the locality, but I got used to it, even taking my young daughter to the park or shops. As an escape I started concentrating on my photography & videography, which I always enjoyed and now I had a bit more spare time to pursue. Public transport assisted me in getting to many of my destinations. With my income protection run out and no assistance from the government, I felt strong enough to seek employment. Nova employment made that finally happen, and now I’m gainfully employed with Aspel cleaning equipment for over a year now and very happy, since it’s given me even more confidence. A chance to upgrade my ride as well which features in my movie, so I have greater range & comfort. In a nutshell, I’d like to think that I’m an inspiration to many who may find themselves in a similar situation, so perhaps this documentary may spur them on to achieving more with their lives instead of feeling sorry for themselves. Some of the media presentations I’ve been involved were the no boundaries project @ the Joan, where my footage was included in the projections at the event, as well as a time-lapse footage of the event itself. A short movie entry organised by Lewers Bequest Emu Plains – Winter lights. Plus many of my images are featured on the Viewbug website.
